Church receives award for contributions to Guatemalan education

Elder Patricio M. Giuffr | The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints

Representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been recognized by the Commission on Education, Science and Technology of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala for their contributions to public education. This acknowledgment was given during a ceremony held on November 7.

Congressman Faver Emilio Salazar Cordero and other members of the Education Commission expressed their gratitude towards the church's efforts. "Thousands of desks, blackboards, tables and chairs have been donated by The Church of Jesus Christ and its members in several areas, including Jalapa, my own, which was prioritized and blessed. Thank you very much; hands that give will never be empty," stated Cordero.

Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, First Counselor in the Central America Area Presidency, accepted the award on behalf of the church. He commented on their humanitarian efforts: “The donations of furniture and equipment to public schools and institutions are part of the Church’s humanitarian efforts to support communities in areas of need, with the goal of facilitating the teaching-learning process by improving a comfortable and suitable environment for thousands of Guatemalan students.”

The recognition underscores significant improvements made in over 300 schools across Guatemala through various educational projects initiated by the church. These projects have enhanced furniture, infrastructure, access to technology, and educational resources.
