In Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the National Council of Religions for Peace (CNRP) have signed a memorandum of understanding. This agreement aims to promote peace, solidarity, and interfaith cooperation in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The signing ceremony included Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, President of the Africa Central Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Sheikh Abdallah Mangala, Chairman of the CNRP Executive Committee. Both leaders expressed their commitment to collaborate in order to benefit people regardless of their faith or background.
The memorandum is based on Gospel principles such as loving one's neighbor and serving the vulnerable. It does not create legal obligations but shows a desire to work together in trust and mutual respect.
The objectives include strengthening humanitarian and educational programs, promoting interfaith dialogue, mobilizing resources to alleviate suffering, and training religious leaders in spiritual diplomacy. The Church will offer programs like Helping Hands and maternal care while CNRP will connect with other faiths.
This partnership highlights a belief that genuine faith leads to viewing everyone as deserving love and support. Both institutions aim to be instruments for peace within families, communities, and the nation.
This event marks an important step in interreligious collaboration in Africa Central. It showcases the impact of practicing Gospel principles with faith and humility.
