Elders Gary E. Stevenson and Gerrit W. Gong, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, attended the inauguration events for President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance on January 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C. They represented The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at these gatherings.
The presence of Elders Stevenson and Gong at the inauguration aligns with the Church's tradition of supporting freedom, civility, and constitutional principles.
“Being in Washington, D.C., at such a time as this is an honor,” Elder Stevenson stated. “The enduring principles that have been the foundation of our nation are important guides for our personal lives, families and communities.”
Since 1873, members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have engaged with presidents from both political parties. The Church sends representatives to U.S. presidential inaugurations under the direction of its First Presidency.
“We wish this administration and all those that serve this country in any capacity strength and wisdom for so great a cause,” Elder Gong expressed. “Our best wishes and heaven-sent prayers to all our local, national and world leaders at this important time.”
