On November 26, 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a financial donation to Fundación Escalera aimed at providing scholarships for Indigenous youth in Mexico. This collaboration seeks to enhance educational opportunities for 350 students across ten Indigenous communities in the Los Altos region of Chiapas.

The funding will cover essential expenses such as school supplies, transportation, uniforms, and meals. These resources are intended to help students continue their education and successfully graduate.

In Chiapas, many Indigenous communities face challenges in accessing education. More than half of the students drop out at the upper secondary level due to financial constraints.

“We believe that we are all children of God and, as such, should have access to opportunities for development, including quality education. Education provides the tools necessary to build a better future,” stated José de Guadalupe Moreno, a regional Church leader who attended the donation event.

Fundación Escalera has been active in Mexico for over two decades, supporting more than 85,000 students primarily from Indigenous backgrounds. Its mission focuses on creating educational opportunities for Indigenous youth in Chiapas.
