Elder Tinotenda Watson Maumbe, a missionary with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has passed away in the Benin Cotonou Mission. The 24-year-old missionary died on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, following a sudden medical episode at his apartment that led to a fall and head injury. The cause of death remains undetermined.

Sam Penrod, spokesperson for the church, expressed condolences in a statement: "With much sadness, we inform you of the unexpected passing of a full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

Elder Maumbe was from the Gweru Zimbabwe Stake and had been serving since February 2024. The church extended sympathies to his family and friends: "We send our love and deepest sympathies to Elder Maumbe’s family and friends, as well as his companion and the missionaries he has served alongside."

The statement concluded with a message of comfort: "We pray that each will be comforted and feel the peace of the Savior as they remember and honor Elder Maumbe and his faithful service as a missionary."
