Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval highlighted Amazon's $100,000 donation to Freestore Foodbank, which has facilitated the delivery of over 1.5 million meals to local communities. This announcement was made during an event at Freestore Foodbank’s Bea Taylor Market in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 9.

"On behalf of the City, I want to express our gratitude for Amazon's continued investment in addressing food insecurity," said Aftab Pureval, Mayor of Cincinnati. "Through the support of organizations like Freestore Foodbank, this partnership is making a tangible, life-altering impact on some of our most underserved neighbors."

According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study, more than 254,000 individuals in the 20-county area served by Freestore Foodbank experience food insecurity, with a rate of 13.8%. Rural counties such as Adams County, Ohio, exhibit the highest food insecurity rates at 19.7%. Hamilton County, where Cincinnati is located, shows a food insecurity rate of 13.3%, highlighting persistent challenges in accessing affordable and nutritious meals.

In 2024, Freestore Foodbank distributed 47 million meals across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana. The Bea Taylor Market alone provided 1.3 million meals to nearly 9,000 households. The organization collaborates with 611 community groups to ensure consistent access to food.

Since 2021, Amazon has assisted Freestore Foodbank in delivering over 1.5 million meals to at-risk residents in the Cincinnati area through its Community Delivery program. This initiative uses Amazon's logistics network to deliver meals directly to underserved families and is part of a larger effort to combat hunger in more than 25 U.S. cities.

Amazon's $100,000 contribution will support Freestore Foodbank's emergency food provision and sustainable hunger relief programs. The donation aligns with Amazon employees volunteering at the food bank’s warehouse to re-stock and distribute produce. This partnership emphasizes Amazon's dedication to addressing immediate community needs.

Pureval is committed to serving all of Cincinnati's neighborhoods with a focus on equitable economic growth, affordable housing, public safety, and environmental action. As Hamilton County Clerk of Courts previously, he modernized operations and introduced paid family leave while saving taxpayers millions.
