A significant collective marriage ceremony took place on March 1, 2025, in the Maadini room of the Hypnose Hotel in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This event saw 81 couples from various religious backgrounds having their unions formally recognized by the civil registrar. The initiative was supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Since 2021, The Church has observed obstacles preventing many couples in the Democratic Republic of Congo from marrying legally. To address this, they initiated a Marriage Project in collaboration with CNRP (le conseil Nationale des religions pour la paix) and the Congolese government through its Ministry of Gender, Family, and Child. This project aims to promote awareness about family code, emphasize legal marriage importance, advocate for dowry regulation, and simplify legal marriage requirements.

Brother Patrice Ilunga Kabemba represented the Church at the event and stressed family and marriage's significance within the community. He stated that it is crucial for "the Church, the government, and parliament" to work together to enhance access to marriage.

Government expert Mr. Roger Sesani provided insights into ongoing efforts to reform marriage laws and reduce financial barriers for couples. He highlighted that only marriages registered at civil registry offices are legally recognized after traditional celebrations. Emphasizing family unity and stability is vital by creating legal frameworks and standardizing fees.

Reverend Armand Kinyamba expressed gratitude towards The Church for supporting this initiative while underscoring shared values among religious denominations regarding marriage.

Her Excellency Mrs. Valérienne Mumba Kiboko concluded speeches by thanking The Church for hosting this event in Haut Katanga Province. She emphasized her commitment to advocating for dowry regulation as part of her Ministry's action plan.

The ceremony ended with a formal celebration conducted by a civil registrar followed by a meal coinciding with Women's Rights Month.
