The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in collaboration with COAFRICA and Build-a-School Initiative in Africa (BASIA), has funded the construction of a new block of six classrooms at St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School in Agoro, Ogun State, Nigeria. The handover ceremony took place on December 18, 2024, marking the completion of the project within three months.

This development is expected to significantly enhance the educational capacity at the school, which previously managed 14 classes within just five classrooms. The provision includes 120 school desks and various supplies aimed at improving the learning environment for students.

Elder Adeyinka Ojediran, first counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency, alongside Ogun State's deputy governor, officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Elder Ojediran highlighted the Church's commitment to education as part of its mission since establishing its presence in Nigeria in 1978. He stated: “The Church is a gospel of giving and empowerment.”

High Chief Dayo Oduntan (Baale), traditional ruler of Agoro, expressed gratitude to BASIA, COAFRICA and The Church for their contributions. He acknowledged the school's long-standing history and its role in developing community leaders over more than a century.

Dr. Victor Ukorebi from BASIA emphasized community responsibility for maintaining these facilities. Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Her Excellency Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele thanked The Church for its humanitarian work and invited further partnerships to advance education across Ogun State.

The newly inaugurated classrooms represent a step forward in providing quality education aligned with The Church’s global objectives for promoting learning and self-reliance.
