Church officials have announced the sudden death of Jason Michael Soulier, who was serving as a mission president in Lyon, France for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on December 28, 2024. The cause of death is yet to be determined, although he had been feeling unwell for a few days prior.
President Soulier began his role as a mission president in June 2024 and was from the Salt Lake East Mill Creek Stake. He leaves behind his wife and mission companion, Sister Jennifer H. Soulier, and their four adult children.
A statement released by church spokesman Sam Penrod expressed sorrow at President Soulier's passing: "We are saddened to announce that President Jason Michael Soulier, serving in the France Lyon Mission, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, December 28, 2024."
The statement further conveyed condolences: "We express our love and deepest sympathies to President Soulier’s family and all the missionaries in the France Lyon Mission during this difficult time. We pray all will feel the Savior’s love as they honor and remember President Soulier’s faithful service."
To support Sister Soulier and manage temporary leadership duties within the mission, Elder James W. McConkie III and his wife Laurel are traveling to Lyon. Approximately 200 full-time missionaries currently serve under this mission.
