Church launches Light the World charity drive with donation machines

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is marking the Christmas season by promoting acts of compassion and service, inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ. This year, the Church has partnered with various charities to extend support and relief to those in need.

Local congregations across the country are spearheading community service projects, collecting essential items such as food, clothing, and hygiene supplies. These efforts aim to assist individuals and families experiencing difficult times.

In a new initiative for the UK, Light the World machines have been introduced at two major shopping centers. These machines provide donation cards featuring items like livestock, clothing, food, and educational supplies. Shoppers can choose to donate to causes that resonate with them personally. The donations made through these machines go directly to the selected charity. More details can be found at uk.LighttheWorld.org.

To promote these charitable activities, a projection event was held at County Hall in London. Sister Kristin M. Yee from the General Relief Society Presidency attended this event and expressed her appreciation: "I’m grateful to be here in London as we launch Light the World and watch the beautiful projections on London’s County Hall." She emphasized that collective efforts could achieve more than individual actions alone: "Together, let us 'Light the World' this season by bringing the Saviour’s love, light, and relief to those around us through simple acts of service."

Elder Alan T. Phillips from the Europe North Area Presidency highlighted the significance of this initiative: "We’re excited to launch the Light the World season of service here in Europe." He encouraged participation in this effort: "As we come together in this season of giving, we invite everyone to participate and experience the joy that comes from lifting those in need."

The Church extends an invitation for all to engage in spreading joy and hope during Christmas by participating in acts of kindness and generosity.
