Church releases final volume of 'Saints' series detailing growth from 1955-2020

Hugo E. Martinez, a General Authority Seventy and assistant executive director of the Church History Department | The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the fourth and final volume of its official history series, "Saints: The Story of the Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Days." This latest installment, titled "Sounded in Every Ear," covers events from 1955 to 2020. It is available in 14 languages.

Elder Hugo E. Martinez, a General Authority Seventy and assistant executive director of the Church History Department, spoke at a recent event celebrating the book's release. He highlighted the personal connections he feels with some of those featured in the book. “Volume 4 is filled with individual stories, faith-promoting stories, inspiring stories,” said Elder Martinez. He invited others to study these stories to find examples of devotion to Jesus Christ.

Historian Matt Grow described Volume 4 as telling "an increasingly global story" about how revelation has helped spread the Church’s message worldwide. He hopes that readers will see themselves reflected in these narratives and be inspired by them.

Among those present at the launch was Isabella Santa Guirado, who expressed her appreciation for how well-written she found the book to be. Another speaker, James Perry, emphasized how individuals continue to serve their faith despite personal sacrifices.

Jed Woodworth explained that while "Saints" can be understood by non-members, it primarily targets young members looking for role models within their faith community. Historian Scott Hales added that younger audiences might relate more easily to contemporary figures like Delia Rochon or Blake McKeow featured in this volume.

The digital version of "Saints, Volume 4" is free on Gospel Library online and through its app. Print editions are expected soon across various languages including Spanish and French.

With no current plans for a fifth volume, future projects may expand upon themes introduced in "Saints."
