Latter-day Saints were encouraged to reflect on the lessons of the Book of Mormon to avoid pride, according to Elder David A. Bednar during the Saturday evening session of the general conference on October 5. Elder Bednar emphasized the importance of humility, stating, “May I suggest that if you or I believe we are sufficiently strong and stalwart to avoid the arrogance of pride, then perhaps we are already suffering from this deadly spiritual disease.” He added, “I testify that as we walk in the meekness of the Lord’s spirit, we will avoid and overcome pride and have peace in Him.”

The session was conducted by Elder Ronald A. Rasband at the Conference Center, where seating restrictions were not imposed for this event. Prayers were offered by Elder Denelson Silva and Elder Robert M. Daines.

A highlight of the evening was a performance by a choir of missionaries serving in Utah, directed by Cory Mendenhall and Chemain Evans with Linda Margetts and Joseph Peeples at the organ. The choir performed hymns from the new hymnbook "Hymns—For Home and Church," including “I Will Walk With Jesus” and “Come, Lord Jesus.”

The Church's missionary force has seen significant growth over the past year, with 450 missions globally and an increase in full-time missionaries surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
