General conference speakers emphasize peace, hope, trust during Saturday morning session

During the Saturday morning session of the general conference on October 5, 2024, several leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints addressed key themes of faith and discipleship. President Dallin H. Oaks urged members to follow the Savior's commandment to be peacemakers, emphasizing, "As followers of Christ, we teach and testify of Jesus Christ, our perfect role model."

President Henry B. Eyring conducted the session while President Russell M. Nelson participated from home. The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square provided music under the direction of Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy.

Elder Neil L. Andersen spoke on hope in his talk titled 'The Triumph of Hope,' stating that "hope is a priceless gift from God." He encouraged building faith through various spiritual practices.

Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman discussed priesthood ordinances in her address 'Live Up to Your Privileges.' She emphasized keeping covenant promises as essential for drawing upon God's power.

Elder Karl D. Hirst highlighted divine love in 'Rejoice and Be Filled With Love,' noting that "divine love never runs dry." He urged individuals to help others feel God's love despite personal challenges.

In his talk 'This Is My Gospel — This Is My Church,' Elder Dale G. Renlund compared the transformative combination of nitroglycerin and kieselguhr with the gospel and church's impact on members' lives.

Elder David P. Homer shared a pioneer story in 'Trusting Our Father,' focusing on trusting God even when personal judgment differs from His will.

Elder Gregorio E. Casillas spoke about ministering in 'God Loves All His Children.' He emphasized offering support and encouragement as ways to reflect Christ’s love.

President Dallin H. Oaks concluded by reiterating the importance of avoiding contention and being peacemakers: "Let us seek to be holy, like our Savior."
