The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has begun delivering food donations to 250 food banks across all 50 states, marking the start of its America250 initiative. This effort is in recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
A send-off event for the first five semitrucks took place at the Bishops’ Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 13, 2025. The Church is working with America250 to highlight freedoms established by foundational U.S. documents.
One of the initial deliveries was made to FISH of Grand Blanc in Michigan on November 19. The following day, a news conference was held at the warehouse as food was distributed to families in need within the Grand Blanc community.
Grand Blanc was selected as one of five cities to launch this initiative due to its community response after a recent tragedy at a local Church meetinghouse. Church leaders acknowledged support from neighbors, first responders, and interfaith partners in Oakland and Genesee counties.
“The people of Grand Blanc and the surrounding communities have shown what it means to come together and help others,” said Marcelino Sanchez, Grand Blanc Michigan Stake President. “This delivery is a small way to say thank you, help our neighbors in need and give back to this wonderful community.”
The truck that arrived in Grand Blanc carried 40,000 pounds of shelf-stable food donated by the Church. Items included canned fruits, vegetables and meats; pasta; flour; pancake mix; and dried milk. Most products were produced by the Church using funds from member donations.
Other organizations receiving these initial shipments include Food for Lane County in Eugene, Oregon; Family Resource Services in Lonoke, Arkansas; The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri in Columbia, Missouri; and Galveston County Food Bank in Texas City, Texas. Deliveries reached Eugene on November 18 and other locations on November 19.
