Church announces new leadership for Mexico and US Southwest areas

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced changes to the leadership of its Mexico and United States Southwest Areas, following the recent appointment of a new Presiding Bishopric.

According to the announcement, Bishop Sean Douglas is released from his position as President of the Mexico Area. Elder José L. Alonso is released from serving as President of the United States Southwest Area. Additionally, Elder Michael A. Dunn is released from his role as Assistant Executive Director of the Church Communication Department and as a member of both the Church Communication and International Coordinating Committees.

Elder Moisés Villanueva has been called to serve as President of the Mexico Area, with Elders Jose L. Alonso and Brik V. Eyre named as First and Second Counselors, respectively.

For the United States Southwest Area, Elder Michael A. Dunn will now serve as President. Elders Jonathan S. Schmitt and Steven C. Barlow have been appointed as First and Second Counselors.

Area Presidencies in The Church are made up of General Authority Seventies or Area Seventies who work under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to support members, missionaries, and leaders in their regions.
