The Roof Restaurant, located on the 10th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in downtown Salt Lake City, has reopened after a significant renovation. The restaurant now offers an à la carte dining experience with a menu inspired by local flavors and features items such as wood-fired flatbreads, signature steaks, Funeral Potato Bites, Utah Scone made from Lion House roll dough, and desserts using local honey. Previously known for its buffet format, The Roof has shifted to a curated sit-down service.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations can be made at theroofslc.com.
Work continues on the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. New chandeliers have been installed in the sealing rooms within the temple’s north addition, while restored original chandeliers are now in the assembly room. These fixtures were designed to match the temple’s original 19th-century style.
The sealing-wing addition on the north side is nearing completion and will provide five new sealing rooms—three large and two smaller ones—for sacred ordinances. In total, there will be 22 sealing rooms: ten in the historic temple (including those in the sealing wing) and twelve in the north addition.
Construction also advances on other parts of Temple Square. Stone cladding, walkways, landscaping, detailed trim work, and millwork are progressing at both entrance buildings. Panels reading “Holiness to the Lord” and “House of the Lord” have been installed on stonework at one entrance; these were engraved off-site with gold gilding applied after installation.
These efforts are part of a multiyear project aimed at strengthening and preserving the Salt Lake Temple ahead of its public Open House Celebration scheduled for April 2027.
