A nurse manager at St. Elizabeth Healthcare has developed a manual to help professionals identify signs of strangulation in survivors of domestic violence. Jill Brummett, who leads the forensic program at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, created the guide for prosecutors, law enforcement, and medical providers across the state.
The release of this manual comes during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, which aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and promote the need for additional resources.
The manual provides detailed guidance on how to respond to survivors who have experienced strangulation, a form of assault that can have serious health consequences and may be difficult to detect.
