Millions of members and followers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are preparing for the October 2025 general conference, which will proceed as scheduled despite the recent death of President Russell M. Nelson. The event is set for October 4–5, 2025, at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
General conference is held twice a year, in April and October. It brings together participants from around the world to hear messages from Church leaders about the gospel of Jesus Christ. The sessions are broadcast live and streamed in more than 70 languages, making them accessible to people globally in various settings.
During general conference weekends, regular Sunday services at local meetinghouses are not held.
The schedule for the five sessions is as follows (all times MDT):
Saturday, October 4:
- Morning session: 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
- Afternoon session: 2 p.m.–4 p.m.
- Evening session: 6 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Sunday, October 5:
- Morning session: 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
- Afternoon session: 2 p.m.–4 p.m.
This year’s conference coincides with a period of mourning for President Nelson, who died on September 27, 2025. His public viewing will be held on Monday, October 6, at the Conference Center. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, at noon in the same location.
The upcoming gathering marks the Church’s 195th Semiannual General Conference. Leadership during this time falls to the First Presidency—composed of the prophet and two counselors—and supported by the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Following President Nelson’s passing, leadership responsibilities shift to the Quorum until a new prophet is appointed after funeral services.
