President Russell M. Nelson, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has traveled to 133 countries since becoming a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in April 1984. Throughout his ministry, President Nelson has emphasized his role as a special witness of Jesus Christ, sharing messages both in person and online.
As President Nelson approaches his 101st birthday on September 9, 2025, church members and others are encouraged to use the hashtag #PresidentNelson101 on social media. This initiative invites people to share how President Nelson’s teachings have influenced their lives and deepened their connection to Jesus Christ.
Five key teachings from President Nelson about Jesus Christ were highlighted ahead of his birthday:
On the healing power of Jesus Christ, President Nelson said in Jerusalem in 2018: “Because the Savior offered Himself as the infinite Atonement, you and I have the opportunity, the privilege, to be forgiven when we repent. We can also turn to Him for healing of our hearts, for strength where we are weak, and for help to do things we simply cannot do on our own.”
Regarding salvation through Christ, he stated during the April 1984 general conference: “The call to the Holy Apostleship is one of witness to the world of the divinity of the Lord Jesus the Christ. I know that salvation is centered in Him! Said the angel to King Benjamin [in the Book of Mormon]: ‘Salvation was, and is, and is to come, in and through the atoning blood of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent.’”
In October 2024 general conference remarks about optimism rooted in faith in Jesus Christ’s return and ongoing work he said: “The best is yet to come, my dear brothers and sisters, because the Savior is coming again! The best is yet to come because the Lord is hastening His work. The best is yet to come as we fully turn our hearts and our lives to Jesus Christ.”
During a BYU devotional in February 1992 on honoring Jesus as master he declared: “We honor [Jesus] as the most important individual ever to live on Planet Earth. He is Jesus the Christ — our Master and more. … Wherever I walk, it is my divine calling and sacred privilege to bear fervent testimony of Jesus the Christ. He lives! I love him. Eagerly I follow him, and willingly I offer my life in his service. As his special witness, I solemnly teach of him. I testify of him.”
Finally, addressing hope for life after death during October 1995 general conference he explained: “Thanks to the Atonement of Jesus Christ, our bodies, corruptible in mortality, will become incorruptible. Our physical frames, now subject to disease, death, and decay, will acquire immortal glory. Presently sustained by the blood of life and ever aging, our bodies will be sustained by spirit and become changeless and beyond the bounds of death.”
