Representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took part in Sweden's annual Almedalen Week, held from June 23 to 27, 2025, in Visby on Gotland island. This event is a significant democratic forum in Scandinavia that gathers thousands of participants, including government leaders, non-profit organizations, academics, and faith communities.
The Church contributed by hosting an interfaith panel discussion titled "Resilience Through Religion." Panelists included David Thurfjell, a professor of religious studies; Karin Wiborn, a church and interfaith leader; and Nadia Jebril, a journalist. They discussed how faith can support individuals and communities during difficult times.
“Religion remains a vital source of strength for many in society,” said Louis Herrey, the event moderator and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “This panel provided a meaningful space to listen to one another and to recognise the shared values that unite us.”
This was the ninth year the Church organized an interfaith event during Almedalen Week. Church representatives attended seminars and discussions with civil society leaders on topics like social cohesion and religious freedom.
Daniel Palm, Church Communications Director in Sweden stated: “Almedalen Week is a remarkable expression of civic responsibility. For the Church, it is a valuable opportunity to listen, share our faith and stand with others who are working to strengthen society. It reminds us that faith can be a unifying force to helping individuals, families and nations find common ground and greater purpose.”
The Church continues its engagement with Swedish communities through humanitarian service and public outreach based on Christ's teachings.
