On June 16, 2025, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a significant donation to the Koforidua Polyclinic in Ghana. This contribution is expected to enhance the clinic's ability to function as a municipal hospital and address the basic health needs of the community.
Before this donation, the clinic faced challenges due to inadequate equipment and tools. According to its 2022 Annual Report, 67% of pregnant women who received antenatal care did not return for delivery because of concerns about the absence of an operating facility. Other units like eye, ear, nose and throat, dental, and laboratory also lacked necessary equipment.
Dr. Kwame Ofori-Koramoah, Medical Superintendent of the Polyclinic, reached out to the Church for assistance. In response, they donated various essential items including an anesthesia machine with ventilator, diathermy machine, complete Caesarean Section set, fetal heart rate monitors, autoclave lights and beds among others. Additional units received vital equipment such as tonometers and vaccine fridges.
Hospital administrators expressed gratitude towards the Church for their support. One speaker remarked: “this is a real dream come true. We are so grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for this huge donation."
President Desmond Osei Anom from Koforidua Ghana Stake explained that funding for such projects comes from fast offering donations by members: "As a Church we are mindful of physical needs as well as spiritual need... Through this process we try sharing message Christ everyone,” he stated.
At conclusion ceremony citation was presented read acknowledging act generosity reflecting Jesus being giver meeting needs others blessing both Polyclinic clients served daily.
