The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has introduced a mobile option for temple recommends, allowing members worldwide to access their recommend on a mobile device instead of paper. This initiative follows a global rollout and is now available in Africa, Asia, the Middle East/Africa North, Philippines, and Pacific areas.
Church President Russell M. Nelson emphasized the importance of temples, describing them as the "gateway to the greatest blessings God has for each of us." The mobile option aims to enhance convenience and accessibility for church members attending temples.
Members can choose between a paper or mobile temple recommend but cannot use both simultaneously. Those wishing to switch to a mobile recommend must contact their bishopric or branch presidency. Once approved, the mobile recommend will be accessible via the Member Tools app on phones or tablets.
Sarah Butler from Provo, Utah, prefers a physical recommend due to its tactile nature but acknowledges the convenience of mobile recommends. Her husband Jared appreciates the new option as it eliminates past inconveniences with forgetting his paper recommend.
Alaina Hatch from Idaho values the simplicity of not carrying extra items like wallets or purses, while Brandon Price from Utah looks forward to relying solely on his phone for temple entry.
To obtain a mobile temple recommend, leaders must update member information through Leader and Clerk Resources. Members need an updated profile photo in their Member Tools account and must inform their local leaders about their preference for a mobile recommend.
Upon approval, members can activate their mobile temple recommend within the app and use it by scanning a QR code at temple entrances. Screenshots are not accepted as valid recommends.
