The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vancouver Washington Temple. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, with Elder Mark A. Bragg, General Authority Seventy, presiding.

The temple will be constructed on a 15.11-acre site at the northwest corner of SE 20th Street and SE Bybee Road in Vancouver (Camas), Washington. The plans outline a multistory building covering approximately 43,000 square feet. This will be the first temple in the city.

Church President Russell M. Nelson initially announced the Vancouver Washington Temple during the October 2023 general conference. At that time, he stated: “The ordinances and covenants of the temple are of eternal significance. We continue to build more temples to make these sacred possibilities become a reality in each of your lives.”

Once completed, this temple will become the sixth in Washington state. Other temples are located in Columbia River, Moses Lake, Seattle, Spokane, and Tacoma.

Historically, many Church members contributed to railroad construction for the Northern Pacific Oregon Short Line in Washington during the 1880s. By 1930, there were eight congregations with chapels in Everett, Spokane, Seattle, and Olympia serving about 1,900 members. The state's membership grew significantly following the completion of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in the early 1940s.

Currently, more than 282,000 Latter-day Saints reside across over 470 congregations in Washington state.

Inside each temple's ceremonies focus on teaching life's purpose and uniting families from different generations. Members commit to keeping God's commandments and supporting His work while living according to Christ's teachings.
