The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has collaborated with Caritas Manila to provide educational support to scholars under the care of Caritas Manila. This initiative highlights a commitment to empowering youth through education.
Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, along with his wife Jennifer, led the donation handover on May 22, 2025. They were accompanied by Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr., Philippines Area President, and his wife Marie.
Beyond supporting scholars, the Church aids Caritas Manila’s child nutrition programs, supplies medical equipment for clinics in underserved areas, and contributes to health and disaster preparedness initiatives.
“We already have such warm feelings and gratitude for Caritas worldwide, and of course, here in the Philippines... To come here and meet our beloved scholars that you are helping and looking after is a glorious thing,” stated Elder Kearon.
Reflecting on past collaborations during the European refugee crisis, Elder Kearon praised Caritas's mission as a “wonderful” example of compassionate service globally and in the Philippines.
“We are very grateful to hold hands with you in your wonderful endeavors and look forward to continuing service together, particularly for those who may otherwise be lost one way or another,” he added.
During the event, two scholars expressed their gratitude directly to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for aiding their college education. Three other scholars sent their thanks via video from provinces outside Metro Manila.
Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual, Executive Director of Caritas Manila, thanked Elder Kearon and The Church for their consistent support over the years. He commended their collaboration with various organizations to uplift Filipinos in need regardless of religion or belief.
Caritas Manila and Cebu Caritas are beneficiaries of the Church’s #LightTheWorld Giving Machines initiative in the Philippines—a Christmas project inviting donations through vending machines for those in need.
Elder Kearon also thanked Fr. Pascual for his leadership at Caritas Manila during a visit to its office in Pandacan, Manila. As appreciation gestures, Elder Kearon and Elder Revillo presented Fr. Pascual with a Christus statue and a framed copy of "The Family: A Proclamation to the World."
Elder Kearon is on a 10-day ministering visit across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao meeting church members, local leaders, government officials, interfaith leaders, and media representatives.
