Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, President of the Africa Central Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended an interfaith conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on May 13, 2025. This event marked the African Union's inclusion as a member of the G20 and was part of the celebrations for the 2025 World Interfaith Harmony Week and Golden Rule Day.
The conference was themed “Africa’s Faith Communities: Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, the African Union Agenda 2063, and the G20 South Africa 2025 Process.” It gathered faith leaders, diplomats, and civil society representatives from across Africa.
In his speech at the event, Elder Mutombo highlighted the important role faith leaders play in fostering peace and collaboration. He quoted President Russell M. Nelson: “We are all connected and we have a God-given responsibility to help make life better for those around us.”
Elder Mutombo also reiterated The Church's dedication to humanitarian work, interfaith cooperation, and inclusive development throughout Africa. "Our role is so vital that without us acting in unity and mobilizing those we lead, we risk putting the good that remains in society at risk," he stated.
The Church continues its efforts with local partners, interfaith councils, and faith-based organizations to enhance education, support families, provide humanitarian aid, and encourage dialogue promoting peace and unity in Africa.
