Eric McArtor, Deputy Superintendent/Chief Operating Officer | Boone County School

An event aimed at enhancing the understanding of youth mental health took place at Crossroads Church in Florence. The gathering was supported by Ethan's Purpose, the Boone County School District, and Crossroads Church.

All four Boone County High School bands and choirs collaborated to deliver a concert featuring uplifting music. This performance was organized by Boone County High School band director Dan Barnhill and Ryle High School choral director Lauren Barnhill. A total of 180 band students and 60 choir students participated in the event.

The program commenced with musical performances, followed by a keynote address from Brandon Saho, a former sports reporter who is now a mental health advocate. Saho discussed his personal journey and highlighted how his podcast serves as a platform for sharing stories. He emphasized the importance of discussing mental health issues, stating that "talking about mental health saves lives" and urged individuals to seek help before making drastic decisions.

After the keynote speech, attendees divided into breakout sessions—one for adults and another for students—to discuss breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging people to seek assistance.

Mental health professionals were present during this free event to provide resources and support.
