A young missionary from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lost his life in a tragic accident in North Carolina. According to Sam Penrod, a spokesman for the Church, the incident occurred on May 1, 2025, when Elder Aleki Langi, 18, was killed as the driver of a car lost control and veered onto the sidewalk.
The accident resulted in minor injuries to another missionary who received treatment at a hospital and was subsequently released. A third companion who was with them at the time was not injured.
Elder Langi began his missionary service in March 2025 and hailed from the Magna 2nd Ward in the Salt Lake Utah West Stake. He was temporarily assigned to the North Carolina Charlotte Mission while waiting for a visa to serve in the Jamaica Kingston Mission.
The Church expressed condolences and love to the family and friends of Elder Langi. Sam Penrod stated, "We extend our deepest condolences and love to Elder Langi’s family, friends, and fellow missionaries during this difficult time. We pray that they will each feel the Savior’s comfort and peace as they mourn his passing and honor his dedicated missionary service."
