The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced plans for new temple locations in Nigeria and Alabama. A new temple will be constructed in Eket, Nigeria, as the city’s first temple. The Eket Nigeria Temple will occupy a 7-acre site on Eket/Oron Road in Ikot Ibiok, within the Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Design plans include a one-story temple approximately 18,850 square feet in size, along with a meetinghouse on the same site.

This announcement follows the declaration made during the October 2022 general conference by Church President Russell M. Nelson. President Nelson stated, "I promise that increased time in the temple will bless your life in ways nothing else can."

In Nigeria, there are plans for a total of six temples. Besides Eket, temples are planned for Abuja, Benin City, Calabar, Lagos, and Uyo. Currently, the Aba Nigeria Temple, dedicated by former Church President Gordon B. Hinckley in 2005, serves the approximately 250,000 Latter-day Saints in 840 congregations throughout the country.

In the United States, a rendering has been released for the Huntsville Alabama Temple, which will be built on a 21-acre site at the southeast corner of Gillespie and Browns Ferry Roads in Madison, Madison County, Alabama. The single-story temple is expected to cover about 30,000 square feet. This temple was included among 17 new temples announced by President Nelson during the October 2024 general conference. It will be Alabama's second temple, joining the Birmingham Alabama Temple, which was dedicated in 2000 also by President Hinckley. In Alabama, the Church has over 40,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 70 congregations.

The ceremonies conducted within the temples serve to teach the purpose of life and to unite families both past and present. Church members commit to keeping God’s commandments, supporting His work, living by the higher law taught by Christ, and dedicating their lives to building the Church of Christ.
