The reflections of President Jeffrey R. Holland during Holy Week provide a thoughtful exploration of the last moments of Christ's life. President Holland, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, offers insights in a new video filmed in his office. In the video, he reads from Matthew 27 in the Bible, which recounts the events surrounding Christ’s Crucifixion and highlights the taunts Jesus faced. Holland points out the use of "if" in the challenges to Jesus, such as, “If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

President Holland explains Christ's words, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” which translate to “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” He emphasizes that despite Jesus’s sense of abandonment, the Father was never closer to Him. Jesus needed to experience that aloneness.

Holland further shares a notable declaration from a Roman centurion present at the Crucifixion. The centurion, described as a nonbeliever, proclaimed, "Truly, this was the Son of God." Holland expresses this sentiment as his own testimony.
