President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revealed plans for 15 new temples during the closing session of the Church's General Conference in April 2025. The new temples will expand the Church's presence across various global locations, including Reynosa, Mexico; Chorrillos, Peru; Rivera, Uruguay; and Campo Grande, Brazil.

Among the locations announced are cities like Porto, Portugal, and Uyo, Nigeria. "We are grateful to the Lord for the acceleration of temple-building in recent years," President Nelson stated. Since taking on the role of president in 2018, Nelson has announced 200 temples. Today’s declaration increases the total number of temples—either completed, under construction, or planned—to 382 worldwide.

Each temple serves as a pivotal site for members, offering peace and spiritual renewal. The sites announced include Liverpool, Australia; Caldwell, Idaho; and Flagstaff, Arizona. Sites like Rapid City, South Dakota; Greenville, South Carolina; and Norfolk, Virginia, will also see the construction of new temples. Notably, Spanish Fork, Utah, will be among the locations gaining a new temple, with Utah being home to a sizable Latter-day Saints community.

"Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of Israel, leads this, His Church," Nelson emphasized. "He is preparing to come again. May we likewise prepare to receive Him."

This expansion is part of a continuing effort by the Church to cater to its growing global membership, as exemplified by plans for new temples in places like San Jose del Monte, Philippines, and Nouméa, New Caledonia. Each temple aims to support the faithful by providing a site for significant religious ceremonies.

With the growing number of temples, the Church continues to acknowledge the importance of each location in enhancing the spiritual life of its members across the world.
