Church leaders highlight community outreach in annual report
Gérald Caussé Presiding Bishop | The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints convened at the Bishops’ Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City on March 25, 2025, to discuss the recently released 2024 “Caring for Those in Need” summary. The storehouse is a major distribution center that helps the Church provide essential resources to those in need.

The summary reveals that the Church spent $1.45 billion and contributed 6.6 million hours of service across 192 countries and territories last year. Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé highlighted the significance of community-level outreach: “It inspires me always to think how the members are responding to the call and really trying their best to emulate the example of Jesus Christ in serving those in need around the world,” he said.

Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson emphasized efforts focused on women and children: “We know that global progress starts when we bless women and children,” she noted, outlining initiatives such as child nutrition, maternal care, immunizations, and education.

Sister Kristin M. Yee, a counselor to President Johnson, encouraged action: “Some of the most important needs are lying right around us,” she stated, urging individuals to assist within their neighborhoods and homes.

Blaine Maxfield from Welfare and Self-Reliance Services spoke about collective involvement: “I love that the summary mentions, ‘What can I do?’” he said, advocating for collaboration among Church members and other organizations.

The caring summary underscores The Church's commitment to living by Christ’s teachings of loving God and serving others. Bishop Caussé concluded with a call for unity: “As disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ...this is how we can increase peace in the world.”
