On March 22, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for the Birmingham England Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The event was attended by church members and invited guests. Elder Scott D. Whiting, Europe North Area President, presided over the ceremony and offered the dedicatory prayer.

The Birmingham England Temple will be the third temple in the United Kingdom for the Church, joining those in London and Preston. Elder Whiting expressed his hopes for the new temple: "Today marks a joyous occasion as we break ground for the Birmingham England Temple. This holy house will stand as a beacon of faith, peace and devotion to Jesus Christ for generations to come."

Elder Whiting and his wife led the ceremonial turning of soil with local officials like Douglas Wright MBE DL and Councillor John Perks participating alongside them. Representatives from various faiths and community organizations were also present.

Temples differ from regular meetinghouses or chapels; they are considered houses of worship where ceremonies such as marriages and baptisms take place to unite families eternally. With over 180,000 members residing in the UK, this new temple is seen as an important development.

Councillor Alex Yip commented on its significance: "The construction of the Birmingham England Temple is a wonderful and exciting addition to our Sutton Coldfield community... The new temple reflects the inclusive nature of our community." He appreciated how it embodies values like faith, tolerance, and service.

James Doggett from Bristol spoke at the ceremony: “It was an amazing opportunity to be a part of this great day... Now that the temple is becoming a reality, it is a blessing for the UK.”

Construction will begin immediately with updates provided as work progresses. Before opening officially for worship services, there will be an open house event allowing public tours followed by a dedication service.

Further details regarding construction timelines and events related to its opening will be announced later.
