Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have stepped forward to assist families affected by a fire in the Nadine Heredia settlement, located in Ancón near Lima, Peru. The incident occurred on March 6, 2025, and resulted in the destruction of 28 homes. Over 500 individuals were left homeless, and tragically, a 10-year-old boy lost his life while attempting to save his pet.

The area's lack of basic services and narrow streets posed challenges for firefighters trying to provide immediate assistance. In response, volunteers from the Miramar Stake of the Church delivered essential supplies such as food, water, clothing, hygiene items, backpacks, notebooks, shoes, and other necessities to address the urgent needs of those affected.

The presence of Latter-day Saints in the area allowed for an effective assessment and coordination of aid efforts. Among those impacted was Celinda, the grandmother of the young boy who perished in the fire. She expressed her sorrow and highlighted their dire situation: “This is how we live now. … It’s so hard to endure this. We’ve been left with nothing, and we need more help,” she said while showing the makeshift tent where her family currently resides.

In response to the disaster, tents have been set up by the Municipality of Ancón to temporarily house displaced families. Despite these efforts, additional support is needed as more Church units within Ancón and nearby districts organize relief activities.

Church members continue to be motivated by a spirit of love and service as they extend help to those in need.
