A severe rainstorm hit Bahía Blanca, Argentina, on March 7, 2025, resulting in significant flooding that affected many families and damaged numerous homes. In response to this natural disaster, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints initiated a humanitarian effort to support those impacted by the storm.
The Church has so far distributed essential items including 132 mattresses, 125 sets of sheets, and 125 blankets. Additionally, food supplies were provided to community members affected by the flooding. These resources were delivered on March 9 at a Church meetinghouse in Bahía Blanca where several evacuated families found temporary shelter.
Efforts continue as the Church distributes nonperishable food, hygiene products, and other essential recovery items to those in need. Plans are underway for additional shipments of mattresses, blankets, and cleaning supplies.
This year marks a century since South America was dedicated to preaching the Gospel by The Church of Jesus Christ. Over these past 100 years, the Church has been involved in various humanitarian efforts across Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
"This initiative reflects the Church’s commitment to service and humanitarian aid," a statement from the Church noted. "Through its swift emergency response, the Church provides both material and spiritual support to people in need." This aligns with their centennial theme: “Following Jesus Christ by serving others.”
