From November to December 2024, the Light the World Giving Machines were active in 107 cities across 13 countries, drawing over 850,000 visitors who donated more than 490,000 items. This initiative aims to bring hope and support to individuals and families worldwide.
Launched by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2017, the initiative has made a significant impact globally. Since its inception, nearly $50 million has been donated by people from various age groups. The effort aligns with the commandment to "love one another" as stated in John 13:34.
In Cuamba, Mozambique, donations have improved access to clean water for expectant mothers at local clinics. One new mother expressed her gratitude: “Washing my baby with clean water ensured he would not get sick. It gave me great peace of mind.”
The presence of Giving Machines is marked by love and selfless service. For many families, visiting these machines has become a tradition that fosters emotional connections and a sense of community.
One father shared his experience after visiting a machine: “My wife and I want our kids to experience the joy of giving."
Highlights from 2024 include providing two million meals for the hungry and vaccinating half a million children against diseases like polio and measles. Additionally, numerous essential items such as clothing and hygiene kits were distributed.
Some 450 nonprofits participated this year — more than ever before. The machines appeared for the first time in Asia (Hong Kong) and Africa (Nairobi), while also returning to the UK after five years.
Elder Quentin L. Cook described the initiative as "a living miracle," highlighting its role in celebrating Jesus Christ's birth through acts of love and service.
All operational expenses are covered by the Church, ensuring that every donation reaches those intended without deductions for overhead costs.
The initiative will continue during the Christmas season in 2025. For more information on how contributions make an impact, visit GivingMachine.org.
