More than 6,300 people in the Philippines participated in the 2024 #LightTheWorld Giving Machines initiative, organized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This program allows individuals to donate essential items like meals, books, and scholarships to those in need.
The donations were formally presented at a ceremony on February 28, 2025, held at EDSA Shangri-La in Manila. Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles led the event, with attendance from Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr., Philippines Area President, and his wife, Sister Marie Revillo.
Since its inception in 2018, these vending machines have offered Filipinos a way to support others by purchasing goods for donation rather than personal use.
This year's beneficiaries include UNICEF Philippines, Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Ateneo de Davao University, Feed the Children Philippines, Alagang Kapatid Foundation, H.E.R.O. Foundation, Caritas Manila, and Cebu Caritas. Representatives from these organizations attended the event.
Artists and influencers such as Eric and Rona Tai, Jairus Aquino, Janella Renner, and Nevin Garceniego also supported the handover ceremony.
Elder Rasband emphasized that “giving is a significant priority” for the Church because it benefits many lives. He praised charity partners for their dedication: “I want you to know that the Church values your partnerships.”
He noted that globally in 2024 alone, the Church donated over USD $1 billion to humanitarian projects addressing various disasters. The #LightTheWorld Giving Machines are part of these efforts.
In 2023, more than PHP 750,000 was raised through donations from 6,305 donors via these machines. Additionally, as with previous years' initiatives since their start at SM Megamall in Manila in 2018—where they became known as beacons of hope—the Church provided an extra PHP 500,000 to each partner organization.
To ensure all donations reach beneficiaries directly without administrative costs deducted along every step until delivery; volunteers manage operations throughout November into Christmas season each year - mostly comprising church members or missionaries who oversee everything involved until completion around New Year's Eve annually when collections close out before restarting anew next holiday period cycle begins again soon after end date arrives once more thereafter moving forward continually onwards likewise going ahead onwardly afterward later then beyond henceforth eventually further
