A public open house for the Auckland New Zealand Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been announced by the First Presidency of the Church. The event will run from Thursday, February 27 to Saturday, March 22, excluding Sundays.
The temple is located at 19 Redoubt Road, Goodwood Heights, Auckland. It offers an opportunity for people to tour its interior and grounds and learn about its purpose. Tours are free but reservations are recommended and can be made online. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Elder Peter F. Meurs, Pacific Area President of the Church, stated: “Temples are houses of the Lord, places where Heaven and Earth meet, and where individuals and families come to worship, pray, feel God’s love, and learn of Jesus Christ. Their lives are enriched, their understanding of God’s plan deepened, and their faith in Jesus Christ strengthened.”
He added that temples provide blessings by uniting families for eternity through divine power. "We are very grateful that the Auckland New Zealand Temple is opening," he said.
Local Latter-day Saint Jana McQueen expressed how temple worship impacts her life positively: "When I worship in the house of the Lord...I return...a better person." Another resident Lisa Kau shared similar sentiments: "It's so exciting having a temple so close."
The Auckland Temple is set to become New Zealand's second such facility after Hamilton's temple opened in 1958. A third is planned for Porirua near Wellington.
Temples differ from meetinghouses or chapels used for regular Sunday services open to all; they primarily serve faithful members participating in sacred ceremonies like marriages that unite families forever.
Across New Zealand there are 226 congregations associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
