Toronto Ontario Temple renovation completed; open house scheduled for February
Russell M. Nelson President | The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints

The public is invited to visit the recently renovated Toronto Ontario Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The First Presidency announced an open house from February 13 to March 8, excluding Sundays, offering tours of the temple's interior and grounds. These tours aim to educate visitors about the temple's purpose.

Reservations for the free tours are recommended and can be made at TorontoTemple.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. The temple, located at 10060 Bramalea Road in Brampton, was initially dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley on August 25–27, 1990. It has served Latter-day Saints in Eastern Canada since its announcement on April 7, 1984.

Canada now has over 200,000 Latter-day Saints, with approximately 55,000 residing in Ontario. During renovations that spanned from October 2023 to December 2024, members traveled to temples in Montreal; Detroit; or Palmyra for worship.

Renovations included reconfigurations and improvements to meet patron demand and enhance accessibility. A significant upgrade was also made to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Local church member Russ Willmott expressed excitement about sharing the temple with the community: “This sacred building has been a landmark in Brampton since 1990," he said. "Latter-day Saints consider temples to be the holiest places on Earth."

Following the open house, President Jeffrey R. Holland will formally rededicate the temple on March 23 at a ceremony broadcast across the Toronto Ontario Temple district.

Canada hosts eight other Latter-day Saint temples in cities such as Halifax and Vancouver, with plans for additional locations in Lethbridge and Victoria.

Temples differ from meetinghouses or chapels where regular services occur; they are seen as “houses of the Lord” where teachings are reaffirmed through ordinances like baptism that unite families eternally.
