A recent donation by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has enhanced the medical capabilities of the Dabala Community Health Centre in Ghana's Volta region. This contribution aims to provide quality healthcare, focusing on maternity and prenatal care for over 450 patients monthly. The donation includes essential medical equipment such as maternity delivery beds, an ultrasound scanner, and a blood chemistry analysis machine.
On January 10, 2025, a ceremony was held where tribal leaders and clinic staff celebrated the new resources. The clinic serves more than 12,000 residents but faced challenges due to outdated equipment. Patients often traveled to neighboring areas for treatment of common illnesses and maternal care. Recognizing this issue, local residents Mr. and Mrs. Tsikpor sought assistance from Brother Bismark Hottorwodze, a church member working at the clinic. Their efforts led to this significant donation.
The Church has previously supported the community during difficult times, notably aiding relief efforts after floods in October 2023 that affected over 31,000 residents. Despite having no formal presence in the area, the Church continues its commitment to assisting those in need.
During the donation ceremony, priesthood leaders emphasized their dedication to helping impoverished communities worldwide through fast offering donations. This act impressed both staff and local tribal leaders present at the event.
Ghanaian Parliament member Wisdom Kobena Woyome addressed attendees with gratitude: "We were just hopeful and operating on faith that one day God would smile beautifully on us." He acknowledged the Church's past support during flood crises and expressed appreciation for its ongoing assistance: "With this also happening now, it appears our relationship is forever."
Woyome further praised the Church's spiritual influence: "The Church has shown the way... We should not only be receiving; we should also be contributing." He concluded with a personal reflection: “Very soon I may think of joining the Church in Tema because of your work.”
The event concluded with a prayer followed by a tour of the newly equipped health center.
