The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a new initiative for 2025 that invites Primary children worldwide to participate in annual service projects. This initiative aims to continue the tradition of service that began when the Primary organization was established on August 25, 1878. Historically, Primary children have contributed by donating pennies to support Primary Children's Hospital in Utah.

The Primary General Presidency encourages all Primaries to organize service activities on a ward or stake level, involving children aged 3 to 11. "We hope this worldwide effort will help children realize they are an important part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and can contribute in meaningful ways," said a statement from the Primary presidency. "As the children serve, they will grow in their love for the Savior and feel joy as they share His love with others."

Service activities should include all ages, and children are encouraged to invite friends, family, and ward members to join. "We are excited to see how children throughout the world make a difference in their communities and share the joy the gospel brings," stated the Primary presidency.

To facilitate participation, stories and experiences from these projects will be collected and shared through the "Friend" magazine. Ward and branch leaders are also invited to submit stories via an online unit history tool.

A set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) provides guidance on organizing these activities. Local Primaries may plan events at any time during the year that suits their circumstances. They are also encouraged to coordinate with larger community efforts where practical. Even small groups can participate meaningfully.

Funding for these activities should come from ward budgets, with emphasis placed on serving through time, skills, and love rather than financial expenditure. Resources like JustServe.org can assist in planning volunteer opportunities if available locally.

Participants can include parents and older siblings, although activities should focus on child involvement. Collaborations with local non-profit organizations are also supported.

The Church hopes this initiative will empower children to actively engage in service while fostering community connections.
