Nearly 1,400 families and individuals in Takoradi and the Madina district of Accra received food through the Light the World (LTW) campaign in Ghana from December 3-5, 2024. The distribution included essentials like rice, oil, gari, and beans following programs with talks and cultural performances.
Local leaders identified those in need, such as widows, the elderly, and disabled individuals. These people were invited to local stake centers for music, dance, and talks before receiving food.
Missionaries from the Ghana Accra Missionary Training Center (MTC) packaged goods for distribution. The MTC gymnasium was used as a warehouse where food was organized into bags for delivery to stake centers.
Programs featured speakers on topics like peace and charity. Elder Isaac K. Morrison explained that LTW has been celebrated annually since 2015 to bring together communities to celebrate Christ's birth and share His light. He introduced “25 ways in 25 days,” encouraging daily acts of service leading up to Christmas.
Elder Samuel Annan-Simons read from Luke chapter 2 in Madina: “This day we gather together because of Jesus Christ... We express good will to you...” He emphasized forgiving others as part of expressing goodwill.
Cultural performances with traditional drums and dances by local youth were well received. Afterward, food bags were distributed to grateful recipients.
