The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is continuing its tradition of spreading goodwill during the holiday season with its Light the World Giving Machines. Since their inception in 2017, these unique vending machines have facilitated donations of goods and services to people worldwide.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke at the 2024 launch event, highlighting the initiative's purpose: “Light the World is our message of glad tidings, which we’re assured will bring joy to all people because of Jesus Christ — because of His birth, because of His ministry and because of His resurrection.”

The Giving Machines will be accessible in 106 cities across 13 countries on five continents this year, marking their first appearance in Africa and Asia. The machines allow donors to purchase items such as food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education, job training, and livestock for those in need.

Sister Amy A. Wright emphasized the significance of these acts: “Jesus Christ admonished: As I have loved you, love one another,’” she said. “One of the greatest manifestations of His love is when we do something for someone that they cannot do for themselves.”

Since their introduction, millions of items worth over $32 million have been donated through these machines. The church covers all operational costs to ensure that every donation goes directly to providing aid.

Over 500 nonprofit organizations are involved this year, including global charities like UNICEF and Save the Children. The initiative underscores a shared commitment to uplifting communities worldwide during the festive season.
