The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña Palacios, met with Elder Gerrit W. Gong, an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on November 11, 2024. The meeting took place in Asunción, Paraguay.
During the discussions, they addressed societal and global challenges and explored the church's initiatives in welfare, self-reliance, and humanitarian aid. They also emphasized the significance of family in contemporary society and reviewed the church's worldwide activities.
Elder Gong presented President Peña with a book that outlines his family history. This book was specially prepared by the FamilySearch Library located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It includes a family tree covering five generations along with records and photographs of his ancestors and their hometowns. President Peña expressed his appreciation by stating, “You cannot imagine what this means to me.”
Elder Gong remarked on their interaction by saying, “We had a very warm, informative and productive visit with His Excellency President Peña.”
The meeting was attended by Dr. Javier Giménez, Minister of Industry and Commerce for Paraguay; Deputy Minister Ing. Rodrigo Maluff; Sister Susan Gong; Elder Alan Walker; Sister Inés Walker; Elder Robert Rivarola; and Carlos Cantero.
