The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has disclosed the sites for two new temples in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Missoula, Montana.
In Colorado Springs, the temple will be constructed on an 18.6-acre site at the corner of Flying Horse Club Drive and Barossa Valley Road. The planned structure will be a single-story building covering approximately 45,000 square feet, accompanied by a meetinghouse and utility building. This development marks the first temple in Colorado Springs.
Church Prophet and President Russell M. Nelson announced this temple during the October 2023 general conference. "The Lord is directing us to build these temples to help us think celestial," President Nelson stated at that time.
With this addition, there are now four temples announced or operational in Colorado: Denver, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, and now Colorado Springs.
Meanwhile, in Missoula, Montana, the temple will be situated on a 5.08-acre plot at Old Bitterroot Road and Lower Miller Creek Road. The plans outline a single-story temple measuring about 19,000 square feet with an ancillary building. This project also represents Missoula's first temple.
President Nelson had previously announced the Missoula Montana Temple during the April 2022 general conference. He emphasized that "positive spiritual momentum increases as we worship in the temple and grow in our understanding of the magnificent breadth and depth of the blessings we receive there." He added that these temples "will bless countless lives on both sides of the veil."
Montana now hosts three temples including those located in Billings and Helena.
Temples serve various purposes for Latter-day Saints: they offer places to feel God's love and peace; learn more about God's plan; make promises with God; unite families through sacred ordinances; among other spiritual practices.
