The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held its October 2024 Youth Worldwide Broadcast, encouraging young members to embrace their role as disciples of Christ. Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles addressed the youth, emphasizing their potential to impact others positively. “You carry within you the power to make a difference, to be beacons of hope and examples of Christlike love to those around you,” he stated.
The event followed the introduction of the 2024 youth theme, "I am a Disciple of Christ," from January. Local Church units gathered to view a prerecorded broadcast and participate in testimony meetings. Elder Soares delivered his remarks near Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, highlighting its symbolism. “This statue is a symbol of Christ’s enduring love and redemption for all mankind,” he noted.
Elder Soares urged youth to share their faith openly. He said, “God gave some of the light of the Savior’s gospel to each of us...hold up your light that it may shine unto the world.” He acknowledged challenges in sharing beliefs but encouraged understanding and compassion.
Suggestions were provided for sharing faith: speaking about Jesus without fear, exemplifying His teachings through actions, and maintaining faith despite opposition. Young Men General President Steven J. Lund and Young Women General President Emily Bell Freeman also spoke during a segment filmed at Hill Cumorah in New York during an eclipse on April 8.
President Freeman expressed gratitude for participating in this mission with youth worldwide: “What a privilege that is ours to stand as His disciples...We’re so grateful to be a part of this.” President Lund added that acting as disciples would bring blessings and joy into their lives while preparing for the Savior's return.
