President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency highlighted the importance of teaching the simplicity of Jesus Christ's doctrine during the Sunday morning session of the October 2024 general conference. "We must avoid speculation or personal interpretation that goes beyond teaching true doctrine," President Eyring stated at the close of the session.
He emphasized that teaching the doctrine of Christ, which includes faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end, is sacred work. He affirmed that "the Holy Ghost will testify of these truths."
President Jeffrey R. Holland, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, also spoke on fundamental principles and ordinances associated with Christ’s church. He explained that "faith, repentance, baptism by immersion at the hands of one who has authority from God to do so," along with other practices, are key components characterizing love for God and neighbor within the Church.
Elder Gary E. Stevenson addressed upcoming opportunities for service and unity within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over the next decade. These include temple open houses and dedications, as well as significant events like the bicentennial of the Church’s organization in 2030 and Salt Lake City's hosting of the 2034 Winter Olympics.
Other speakers included Bishop L. Todd Budge; Elder Brook P. Hales; Brother Bradley R. Wilcox; and Sister Tracy Y. Browning. The session was conducted by President Dallin H. Oaks in a nearly full Conference Center.
Prayers were offered by Elder Jonathan S. Schmitt and Brother Chad H Webb. Music was provided by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square under Mack Wilberg's direction.
