President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the construction of 17 new temples during the October 2024 general conference. These temples will be built in various locations around the world, including Juchitán de Zaragoza, Mexico; Santa Ana, El Salvador; Medellín, Colombia; Santiago, Dominican Republic; Puerto Montt, Chile; Dublin, Ireland; Milan, Italy; Abuja, Nigeria; Kampala, Uganda; Maputo, Mozambique; Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Queen Creek, Arizona; El Paso, Texas; Huntsville, Alabama; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Summit, New Jersey and Price, Utah.

"Why are we building temples at such an unprecedented pace?" asked President Nelson. "Because the Lord has instructed us to do so. The blessings of the temple help to gather Israel on both sides of the veil."

Latter-day Saints view temples as sacred places where members can receive peace and spiritual power through sacred agreements with God.

In Mexico's Juchitán de Zaragoza and other locations across Central and South America such as Santa Ana in El Salvador and Medellín in Colombia—where missionary work began decades ago—the church continues its expansion with new temples. In Europe and Africa too—with sites like Dublin in Ireland and Abuja in Nigeria—the church aims to provide more accessible worship opportunities for its followers.

In North America—specifically in states like Idaho and Arizona—new temples will join existing ones to serve large congregations. This expansion reflects a broader trend within the church to increase accessibility for its global membership.

The announcement underscores ongoing efforts by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to meet the needs of its growing number of adherents worldwide.
