The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the dedication of the Deseret Peak Utah Temple, scheduled for November 10, 2024. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. MST and be broadcast to local meetinghouses within the temple district. A rebroadcast is set for later that evening at 7 p.m. MST.
On this day, only sacrament meetings will be held, with adjustments recommended to ensure meetings conclude before the dedication begins. Members in the temple district are invited to view the event from their local meetinghouses due to limited seating at the temple itself.
The Deseret Peak Utah Temple represents a shift towards simpler dedication events. Further details about the broadcast will be provided to stake presidents soon.
Earlier announcements highlighted a public open house for the temple in Tooele, Utah, starting September 26 and running until October 19, excluding Sundays and October 5 for general conference. Elder Kevin W. Pearson emphasized community involvement: "We want everyone...to feel this temple is a part of your community."
This new temple will be the Church's 200th operating facility worldwide when dedicated. Originally announced as the Tooele Valley Utah Temple in April 2019 by Church President Russell M. Nelson, its name was changed on January 19, 2021.
Construction began on May 15, 2021, with Elder Brook P. Hales conducting a groundbreaking ceremony. The temple spans nearly 72,000 square feet on a site that also includes a new meetinghouse.
Utah houses nearly two-thirds of its population as Latter-day Saints and is home to several temples either completed or under construction by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
