The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the schedule for the open house and dedication of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple. A media day is set for Monday, April 20, 2026. Invited guests will tour the temple on April 21 and 22, followed by a public open house from April 23 to May 9, excluding Sundays.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will lead the dedication ceremony on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast at 2:00 p.m. The session will be broadcast to all congregations within the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple district.
Oregon has more than 150,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across nearly 300 congregations. The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple becomes the third in Oregon, joining existing temples in Medford and Portland.
President Russell M. Nelson first announced plans for this temple in April 2021. At that time he said, “Temples are a vital part of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness. Ordinances of the temple fill our lives with power and strength available in no other way. We thank God for those blessings.”
In addition to updates in Oregon, The Church has shared details about another temple planned for Yuma, Arizona. The new Yuma Arizona Temple will be built on almost seven acres at East 36th Street and South 8 East Avenue in Yuma. Plans indicate it will be a single-story building with approximately 18,500 square feet and an additional ancillary structure.
Arizona is home to nearly 450,000 Latter-day Saints who gather in over 900 congregations throughout the state. There are eight other temples operating or under construction across Arizona’s cities including Flagstaff, Gilbert, Gila Valley, Mesa, Phoenix, Queen Creek, Snowflake, and Tucson.
President Nelson also announced plans for this temple in April 2024 and stated: “Understanding the spiritual privileges made possible in the temple is vital to each of us today.”
While meetinghouses are open to everyone for worship services and activities during weekdays and Sundays, temples serve as places where faithful members participate in ceremonies intended to unite families forever.
