A cultural event marking the 100th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay was held on October 11, 2025, at the Antel Arena in Montevideo. The celebration brought together civic, religious, and educational leaders, as well as members and friends of the Church, to commemorate a century since South America was dedicated for the preaching of the restored gospel.
The event featured music, dance, and spiritual messages centered on Jesus Christ and highlighted the history and growth of the Church in Uruguay and across South America. Musical performances included choirs, soloists, and dance groups presenting songs such as “Ask of God,” “Faith in Every Footstep,” “Called to Serve,” “How Firm a Foundation,” and “La Uruguaya.” Traditional Uruguayan culture was represented through folk dance and a choral performance of Rubén Rada’s “Mi País.”
Notable attendees included Cardinal Daniel Sturla, archbishop of Montevideo, who commented on the evening’s atmosphere: "Everything was beautiful and very well organized," he said. "I especially enjoyed the art exhibit and the FamilySearch booths. They reflect how much the Church values family and history."
Enrique Remuñán from ORT University referenced ongoing collaboration with the Church: "We have worked together on cultural and educational projects for many years," said Remuñán. "It’s always a joy to reconnect with friends from the Church and share in such a positive experience."
Some guests spoke about their experiences with faith at the event. Marisse, an attendee who is not a member of the Church but identifies as Christian, shared: "This event helped me see that there are many ways to live one’s faith, and all of them unite us in spirituality and in the love of God."
Elder Eduardo Gavarret from the South America South Area Presidency described it as "a true celebration of hope and unity." He also emphasized that exhibits about education, family history, and humanitarian work illustrate "the Church’s ongoing commitment to the spiritual and social development of communities in Uruguay." Elder Gavarret added: "Seeing members and friends of the Church together with representatives of other faiths reminds us that we can work side by side for the common good. This commemoration strengthens our sense of belonging and inspires us to serve others by following the example of Jesus Christ."
